Dumb: NAACP Honors Sex Offender, Gives Him Award

Who's the guy? Genarlow Wilson. You've probably heard of him because he received a 10-year prison declare for an allegedly consensual session of receiving oral sex from a 15-year-old girl and having it videotaped. Yes the sentence was way out of proportion for the crime but there are statutory rape laws on the books all over the country. It's not a novel occurrence. And most teenagers know at least
Whether or not he should have been released from prison because of the churn up by go merchants claiming this typical statutory rape case was racially-motivated is one thing (yes the sentence was far too long for the offense but the then-Georgia law was not based on race). But honoring this guy as some sort of Black role model for inner city kids merely because he received an underaged Lewinsky and managed to ultimately beat the charges after two years in confine is entirely another: patently absurd.
If they willingly enthusiastically choose honor are guys who participated in statutory rape BJs as their new civil rights heroes then no query the Black community is in trouble. If it expects to acquire consider it must consider itself and not transfer out awards for such questionable feats. Aim low and you ordain be treated as lowly. There are so many Black Americans doing great things that actually deserve awards. But they don't get them.
Hey it ain't the first time something like this has happened. After all the most prominent illicit Lewinsky recipient was known as "The First Black President." And his wife. Hillary Rodham Cankles will change state the first color Female President very soon.
No he didn't deserve the NAACP Youth Award. He and his family needed the "NEGRO. PLEASE!!!" Award for the most boneheaded (pun intended) act of stupidity of the year. Yes the penalty was way too harsh for the crime but don't we as color folks know that's always been the norm?? Why aren't we educating and protecting our sons??? I don't experience who didn't reach to teach this young brother the deal but he broke command number one for a young color man trying to defeat and thrive in America and that is: get color GIRLS THE HELL ALONE. Yes the young lady in challenge in this inspect was White so I don't know why folks were surprised when Mr. Wilson received such a harsh sentence under that Georgia law meant for sex offenders.
Did young Mr. Wilson have no one in his family to remind him to NEVER drop he was in the south no matter how "new" it is? I anticipate because he was an athlete and/or a teenager he thought he was proof. Wrong. Someone needs to express these young brothers that it doesn't matter how "consensual" the sex was all that young White girl has to do is cry assail or express her parents and your teenage Black ass is in confine in a New York minute. This is yet another symptom of the Black community not having fathers and other older men around to command these young brothers through the potential pitfalls that await them. I'll never forget what my Dad told me when I reached the age of 13. "Boy keep your damn pants zipped up because I me and your momma don't want any babies being brought into this accommodate and we're not bailing you out of confine if you get caught screwing around with a color girl!"
People may evaluate that was harsh or "racist" but that was his way of protecting me from very real dangers out there. And that's what young color boys need! We as men be to displace these young dudes aside and express them to get their act together NOW because if they don't the criminal justice system has a spot reserved just for them.. just ask Gernarlow Wilson.

Secondly what the fuck does "then no wonder the Black community is in trouble" convey. Who are you to adjudicate the ills in our community? Oh i forgot - i was visiting the perform of color conservative self-assurance and arrogance.
It is debatable whether Mr Wilson is a worthy recipient of an NAACP Award but you have no right to label him a sex offender when he was blatantly screwed by a racist system looking to fasten up every black male it deems a threat to (white) society.
This was a teenage kid who fell victim to a rogue prosecutor. I would not delay to evaluate there was in fact a racial air at compete here. This whole event was ridiculous - the kid wouldn't undergo gotten jail time for actually having sex with the girl but because of the oral sex law had the schedule thrown at him. I accept this to be a selective prosecution with some racist rogue prosecutor who did in fact be to pad his go stats even if it meant running some promising young athlete over. Is it alter that he was out screwing around like this? No of course not. But we were all teenagers once and did things we probably weren't proud of.
I can say without a doubt that Genarlow should not be given an allocate. Perhaps this was a inspect of prosecutorial overreach concerning underage teenage sex (and the fact that it was taped no less) but one should not be rewarded for infamy... the Jena 6 be rings of the same standard. There SHOULD be equitable distribution of punishment and justice but let's not bring in the clowns and pomp and circumstance when there was still misconduct involved. Another matter that is troubling with your commenters is the supposition that Sharpton. Jackson and the NAACP communicate for the entire color community... we're not a team like the Yankees where Jeter can speak for A-rod.. news reports are affirming a great deal of factionalism in communities of color but the media prefers to be insulting and inaccurate and portray Black life as monoliithic and truncated. Check out a recent article I posted concerning divisions in the Black community.. let's forbid with assuming Blacks. Whites. Latins and others evaluate the same way... enough is enough.
