Buying a condom would be like admitting that what you were PLANNING to sin against God.2. Sexism within the Black Community. Black folks in general tend to be very traditional and conservative and in this country that means a real commitment to patriarchy where the man is the rule maker and breaker. Many women have cited the fact that they didn’t feel comfortable or even had the ability to ask their men to wear condoms. If black women were empowered with high self worth they would be able to see that their man’s pleasure is not worth their health.3. Lack of Commitment. African American women are the least married of all women in the United States. Why does this matter? Do you really think these women aren’t having sexual relationships? They are many in long term relationships that never end in marriage or any monogamous commitment. That means there are more black women having unprotected sex with their partners who in turn are having unprotected sex with other partners. Your man doesn’t have to be on the down low to contract HIV or even cheat on you he just has to have had a girlfriend in the past who dated a guy who dated a girl who dated a guy whose baby’s momma used to have an IV drug problem.4. Attraction to the Thug. I can’t cite any statistics in which black women more than white women like bad guys but I can tell you that a black bad guy is more likely to have been to prison than the white bad guy. It seems like some of us just love a roughneck. Well what do you suppose that roughneck did for 5 years while he was locked up? These women can’t honestly believe that they lived the kind of prison existence that Malcolm X did? More likely it was a little more like OZ where that loveable roughneck either had or was somebody’s bitch. Prison is a different place and just because he looks tough doesn’t mean he didn’t ‘slip’ inside and expose himself to the virus. Black women just need to begin protecting themselves. We need to understand that unprotected sex is DANGEROUS. The worst that can happen is not an unwanted pregnancy. You could die. The bottom line is…USE A CONDOM! #4 is interesting.
