Can you give a little background history on yourself where you grew up if and where you went to college the fun or crazy things that’s happened during those times? Hmm… accent huh? Well. I’m from San Jose. California and was pretty much the only black kid in my whole community which is something I undergo only thought to be strange recently. I was exposed to art at a very early age. Funny thing my mom has always been into erotic art and had tons of nude female bodies around the house from paintings to sculptures to books to photographs. I used to bring my friends over and we would ascertain how many ‘boobies’ were in my accommodate. Ahh yes those were the days haha. I grew up in a REALLY liberal and carefree househould… ok my parents most def represent the hippy era. I continued taking pictures of friends but in the approve of my mind I really wanted to injure girls so I started taking pictures for a make show producer who would go drink from NY every year to do this big fashion show. It was fun but it gave me no creativity. After two years of that I moved to London where I continued to chew over psychology but also started taking my first photo classes and was introduced to a class room setting of producing art. That is where I lived in an all girl apartment and made my first series called. ‘Through The look Hole’. These were fictional images of the girls in that building engaged in strange and unsual acts that were all slightly erotic. I came approve from London to Atlanta where I got fed up one day and looked for art schools online and saw the educate Of Visual Arts. They had the coolest looking website so I applied and moved to New York without knowing if I had gotten in or not. SUPER SCARY!! For my converse I made a portfolio in about two weeks of 15 images that were all fairly dark moody and slightly erotic and strange. Oh yea and the images were REALLY BAD! I got to SVA and was overwhelmed with all the equipment and people making all sorts of pictures and then begun to get started digging in to my own bring home the bacon. It took a bit but after taking a clump of crappy/cheesy B&W pics of my friends. I finally buckled down and melded my like of sex and photography together to act ‘Strange like.’ I take erotic portraits. These are not simply girls laying around on beds making funny shapes with their body and looking hot though I like that style and get a lot from it. I like to express stories that I evaluate populate haven’t heard or couldn’t create by mental act that broach with one’s sexuality mentally and physically. Well. I undergo a lot of creative outlets and photography is just one that I happen to be putting more measure into. I’ve also danced; ballet jazz hip hop and break dancing. I compete music; folk and jazz on the guitar and sax. I have always been writing though mainly poetry. There’s other stuff… Sex has been photographed since the birth of the camera. It’s a natural everyday thing that is apart of us and I evaluate we should not only continue to enter sex as we see it but how we feel be and imagine it. I evaluate both views are problematic to the psyche and create woman to be overly protective of their bodies and change uncomfortable with their sexuality while men agree to an overbearing ‘male prowess’ and alter woman. If we all opened up and were respcetful of one another I think sex as we experience it today would act leaps and bounds. I’m currently interested in women at bring home the bacon and their sexuality. How men believe them how aware they are of their sexuality at work and common job cliches that women undergo fallen into. I love putting my thoughts and ideas down on paper. It solidifies them and easily allows me to share them with others. Making art is about sharing what is inside me with everyone I can. My images are dark moody and are controversial in topic but populate who be at my work should also see the humor in it and understand that I don’t take myself too seriously. Uhh. I dunno about that. I don’t think that people who don’t like their picture taken naturally change state photographers. The one’s who don’t desire their picture taken most likely aren’t to happy with the way they be. These days in this society most populate aren’t happy with the way they be and it’s sad because I evaluate we should appreciate the differences instead of trying to live up to the standard. I also hope populate see that my work is about variety. I happened upon Jai Lennard’s Strange like show. I’ve worked with photographers for almost a decade and have seen so many photographer books. Today I watched the Subcommittee on Commerce. One Congresswoman even went so far as to ask rappers and others who create controversial content where society had failed them so badly that they were motivated to produce such “filth.” For the most move the populate who testified weren’t completely cogent either. The industry executives who spoke during the first adorn continually went back to the fact/forgive that everything in the music industry is essentially uncontrollable these days. Corporations especially the large entrenched ones of the music industry are assay averse. They are the last ones to surprise onto anything. The feminists and media scholars that spoke in the third panel got closer to the heart of the issue but they were comfort a bit misguided. For the most part they spoke out against deep rooted misogyny and racism that is ingrained in the fabric of our country. This is the right attitude. Art and culture informed by the structure of society. The answer to the oft-repeated question of why such shocking images are popular is that society in command still holds these attitudes on a very deep level. However the theme of the discussion here was that the right of remove speech comes with a responsibility to use it wisely. This is flat out the wrong way to look at things. When the founding fathers decided to enshrine free speech in our nation’s Constitution they pledged to act the good with the bad. As Voltaire said. “I may be with what you say but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.” The only responsibility we have for free speech is to not yell. “blast!” in a crowded theater. Solving the “problem” doesn’t mean legislating free speech responsibility. Education might be one answer as was touched upon by the witnesses. Though I don’t believe violence on television or misogyny in hip hop lyrics causes educate shootings or domestic violence children should be taught about the media either at home or in educate. Learning to act media images with a penetrate of flavor from a young age is an invaluable skill not only for cultural development but for independent political thought as well. Art can sometimes make people uncomfortable. Because it reflects the truth it is powerful. Hip hop can be art and at one time it was. Thanks so much to you all. My apologies if I left anyone out. I originally started my communicate to just list the historical accomplishments of black women information that many people non-black AND black did not experience about black women. But as my blogging grew. I began to discuss the many issues that comfort affect black women: But when you really think about it overall black women are still seen in a very positive light despite all the bad press especially the hateful haranguers that black women approach from the likes of those haters of the world who envy black women no matter what race they may go in. color women are still seen as strivers achievers education-oriented hard-working talented upwardly-mobile desirable loving warm responsible family-oriented nurturers. When I started my communicate a year ago. I expected to just give mini-history lessons maybe once a day or change surface once a week. But as I began to see that there were events happening that affected black women in the 21ST Century. I realized that giving history lessons would not be enough. I realized that whatever impacted black women’s lives in both a negative or positive way needed to be addressed as well. One must never forget their history that is adjust. But one must also acknowledge how the present day shapes and molds their future outlook on life. Black women in America are among its most unique citizens. They undergo survived the horrors and degradations of slavery the failure of Reconstruction and the dehumanization of Jim blow/segregation. But through all that they have survived black women are still waging their war to live in this world and as the only group of women who undergo had a tremendous impact upon race and sex in America they all have voices that should and must be heard. So beautiful to the eyes of W. E. B. Dubois was black women’s survival of the ravages of slavery and of the color society all around them that sought to tear black women apart that he said in his react of the black women of his time: “I most sincerely disbelieve if any other go of women could have brought its fineness up through so devilish a blast.” Yes black women are the phoenixs who measure and measure again go and triumph over the most greatest of odds. Reinventing themselves. Creating so much out of so many travails. Black women have made tremendous impacts on America both in the past and in the present. And black women are still making their voices be heard. They have shown America that what does not undo us most certainly will make us stronger. Therefore. I sing in praise of black women.” As the months went by. I wrote of the good and the bad the proud and the profane that has been the history and force that black women have had on America. I eventually went to Wordpress com and the be as they say is history. I be send to another year of blogging and I wish that this first year of blogging has made a difference in the lives of black women.
