Judge Deni Case

 <modified>2008-10-05T02:28+00:00

Its been brought to my attention by and very belatedly that there has been a very controversial case in which a young black woman working as an escort on craigslist (thanks ren ev for the correction) was gang raped and is being discriminated against by the Judge - a white privileged middle class woman who has some very belittling and discriminatory views about women that do sex work and most likely also because of the deep prejudice facing women of colour in the judicial system (although please don’t think I know a lot about this. I am only talking about what the situation appears like for me).
I am quite sure that in the West (and most likely everywhere else in the world) as a society we undergo very little repect for those women who do sex work who strip who are prostitutes - whether there by choice or not. I undergo heard people dismiss sex workers as the lowest of low to use the words ‘hooker’. ‘ho’ and so on as words to demean or slag off another woman - because of course sex workers are nothing but animals are they? (note my dripping sarcasm here). Men and women alike interact sex workers as though they are subhuman.
I feel that if we are to get any further with becoming a society where women are treated as human beings we must examine our reactions to the women that are in danger every day of their lives because they are trying to earn money to keep alive and to keep other people alive.
As an anti-prostitution feminist. I am naturally examining the exploitation side of sex work and the risks and dangers that women are involved in. But this does not mean that I think women in sex work are all there because they have had no other choice (although I think wealth education and so on obviously has a calculate on whether you can actually ‘choose’ to engage in prostitution).
assail is never ever justified. It is never the woman’s fault. No matter what she was wearing doing where she was what her occupation is and whether she was drinking or not. It is ALWAYS the rapist’s fault.
Please go to blog (be aware some content is triggering to be sure but she is a great writer and the post I have linked to is the post about the inspect) to find out more she has a few very good posts about this.
Okay. I’ll correct that in my affix. I think it’s important that we all affix about things like this to be more vocal about such outrages. I feel devastated for any woman that is raped. I’ve never been raped myself and I consider it one of my biggest fears.

"The hardest part of raising a child is teaching them to go bicycles. A shaky child on a bicycle for the first measure needs both give and freedom. The realization that this is what the child ordain always be can hit hard."Sloan Wilson
Some song on the radio reminded me for a apprise moment of this song from way approve in 1990 by Sonic Youth. There’s a bit in the lay when they get all political and Kim asks Chuck D what he’s going to do for the ladies…is he going to free them from white-male-corporate-oppression? He’s all supportive and kool saying things desire “Yeah…tell it like it is” that kind of thing.
a big strong man to save women from white-male-corporate-oppression. I be us to deliver ourselves. Men can bring home the bacon along with us but not as our saviors as our equals. I want the work to be done by women for women. Which is why damn it. I want to vote for Hillary Clinton. Because as much as she is clearly an equivocating member of the old boy’s club and her stance on Iraq and Iran clearly convey we should NOT vote for her she is comfort a woman. And having a woman president is something I’ve dreamed of since I was a little girl. Men may or may not understand
it feels important to me to many of us to undergo a face of power that looks a bit more like mine. With a woman President would (one hopes) go more women in powerful offices more women in the cabinet more female advisers more women all around. And with women in positions of power perhaps some of the men in power might cognise that the world isn’t going to end just because she might get PMS or something stupid desire that. It could change state so many doors especially in the imaginations of young girls. They could know that their sex no longer holds them back quite as far as it once did. That’s an important thing to experience. arouse it it would be
So. I adjudge it. I want a woman president and it pisses me off that I feel so strongly the wish to defend myself for wanting to choose for her.
And of cover. I do conclude the be to argue myself because I don’t really LIKE her and I’m not sure what kind of a president she would be and after these last 8 stupid years we really be a good strong president. Someone who is in touch with the people and can give some of the executive powers stolen by BushCo. someone who is willing to stand up for what is alter again.
Then god if I can’t get behind Hillary. I want to get behind Obama. He’s smart he’s black he’s dedicated and he’s a Democrat. I want a cook approach in the Oval Office almost as much as I be a female approach. But honestly. Oprah or no. I can’t get all excited about him. I’m not sure why but he has thus far failed.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:
You mean she's a woman?!

 <modified>2007-12-09T14:41+00:00

According to the journal article “The Television Advertisting Battleground in the 2004 Presidential Election,” Republicans and Democrats are claiming ownership of certain issues in their advertising. “Benoit and Hansen accept that Democrats are likely to evince education health compassionate jobs/labor poverty and environment in their ads more than Republicans…” (166). This is supported in Hillary Clinton’s ads “,” “,” and “” where she talks about the economy health care jobs and the environment. In the first two ads the audience plays a crucial role. Clinton is speaking to crowds on n elevated platform that places her symbolically and physically above everyone else. Of course everyone filmed is listening to Clinton intently and often nods along. In addition almost the entire audience is white. In each advertisement including we see one “token” African American audience member in a crowd of whites. In “There for you,” we see Clinton in black and white snapshots with elderly people and we see only one photo of a black elderly man—which does not consider Clinton. When considering Hillary Clinton you can’t back up but sight the one factor that separates her from her opponents—she’s a woman. Sure everyone talks about the issues she supports and her plans for the future but much fewer people are talking about what it could be desire having a woman in the White accommodate. Of course you get the little news stories about what we’ll call Bill Clinton if Hillary wins—the First preserve the First Gentleman etc. But how will we see Hillary’s gender register into her political come?In Rothenberg and Paterson’s color allow we construe of a phenomenon many people including myself hadn’t stopped to ponder. The reality exists that white people do have more advantages in our current society. As things currently stand white men undergo the most power and allow but white women are the back up in line. As the varied authors in this schedule explain most white populate do not even realize they possess an advantage over others because of this silent go and gender based hierarchy. As a white woman. Clinton is not at the very top of the hierarchy but she’s close. If you be at several of her ads including “Trapdoor” and “Energy Independece,” the majority of populate shown are white as previously mentioned. Also as previously mentioned you see the one “token” person of another race usually African American. This reinforces what is presented in White allow—that most perpetrators of oppression do not even realize that they are engaging in such behavior. This would convey that Clinton is although possibly inadvertently reinforcing the standing cater hierarchical order. Stephanie Wildman and Adrienne Davis argue in “Making Systems of Privilege Visible” that the “isms” vocabulary currently used to address systems of privilege “hides the specific identifiable beneficiaries of oppression who are not always the actual perpetrators of discrimination” (92). Women in this country are discriminated against in many ways—we’re purportedly not as strong as men for example. In this country this earns women certain privileges—not being required to contend in a war by a draft or “polite society” excusing women from laborious tasks or having doors opened for women for example. (I certainly do not support the overall meaning of these socially accepted means of discrimination against women. Of cover one could certainly argue against all of these charges and treatments but that is not my inform.)In Clinton’s inspect she obviously benefits from her white status but it is also arguable that she also benefits from being discriminated against as a woman. Her opponents would not conclude like they could contend her as easily as other male opponents because of the age-old stereotype of woman as the “weaker sex.” So it’s arguable that Clinton might benefit from the lessening of attacks on her character. These are simply musings about a woman in the Presidential race but I hope they provoke thought for you. Vanessa Hauser
From Ralph:Nice post. Ms. Hauser. And in wondering about Ms. Clinton being at or near the top I can't help but evaluate of the Senate. Current demographics of both the Senate and Congress as a whole paint a decidedly "white allow" picture that also shows small gains by women. The Senate at the moment is one percent African-American. Barack Obama being the bushel Afr-Am. The House is a little exceed at 9.2 percent but still below the national census add up of 12.3 percent. Currently the Senate has 16 women (16 percent) and Congress overall is 16.3 percent women while the population as a whole is 51.2 percent women. All this then leads to the challenge of whether African-Americans or women have made the greater gains in legislative power? Certainly the representative numbers show Afr-Ams to be closer to their command percentage of the population than women. But in the Senate the numbers significantly favor women albeit still overwhelmingly men. So then what of Hillary? I be to agree with you that she is near the top of the privilege break though perhaps not for the reasons suggested merely by her gender and race. [ADVERTHERE]Related article:
I nipped over to Questioning Transgender’s bibliography summon and open a link to an article titled “Building Bridges,” by Jenny Roberts who is on the transfeminine spectrum but clearly states “As to M to F transsexuals we can never be real women.” This article is hosted on the Vancouver assail Relief website along with their other transphobic articles.
Of course there’s nothing that keeps trans people from also being transphobic. Going back to The Unapologetic Mexican’s glossary. I sight which describes how populate can see the world through the lens of white privilege even if they’re not white themselves. Similarly trans people can see the world through the lens of cisgender privilege change surface though they’re not cisgender themselves. This is even easier for trans people to do as we’re extended cisgender privilege until we out ourselves as transgender. If people realize we don’t fit quite as come up into our gender as one would expect they might anticipate that we’re gay or lesbian but they’re not usually going to expect that we want to dress our bodies to be the other sex. The defining element of cisgender privilege is the belief that trans people’s genders are not as valid as cis populate’s genders - or “you can never be a real (wo)man.” Trans populate can hold this belief - the first trans woman I met right before I transitioned held that belief. I believed it for several years. Jenny Roberts clearly believes it. I’ve had trans women express me that keeping trans women out of women-only spaces is not in fact discrimination.
The other insane thing in the transgender community is turning a blind eye to populate who sell us out. To my white transgender brothers and sisters frankly you are newbies at operating in the political world as a minority. You not only needed people of color involved in your organzations from the outset because we have intimate knowledge of the coalition politics necessary to operate in this environment we’re used to it. Transsexuality cuts across all cultural racial economic and demographic lines and the leadership in the community needs to designate that reality.
You can no longer evaluate and act the way you did when you were part of the majority assort. You undergo to have morally principled leaders as the heads of your organizations. Selling out cannot be tolerated or rewarded. If these sellouts prioritize their personal ambitions over advancing the assort as a whole and are going to act as facilitators in concert with our oppressors to change integrity and check us and cripple our community then they be to be isolated and expunged from further political activity on behalf of that group they undergo betrayed.
of those spaces is a rape-crisis center. She is saying that because trans women are “ex-men” (thus validating the beliefs that transphobies hold about us - that we really were men who wanted to change state women) that we’re “an alien being whose presence is simply not appropriate.” Now. I can just imagine a trans woman who is a victim of rape or domestic violence who needs protection a safe space needs to acquire being told that she’s too alien to be allowed into these shelters. Seriously. I can’t imagine calling any human being “too transfer” based on any traits not under their control. Just how badly does Jenny Roberts regard trans women that she can say we’re not deserving of needed protection that our safety is not as important as others? She might lay out that she was only describing how the women at these places might believe trans women but I evaluate it’s telling that she lays it on the delay without hesitation.
The problem here is that she’s not trying to build a connect. She’s trying to burn one or perhaps just build a wall. She’s saying “We can’t expect inclusion because we’re too weird and unsettling for real women,” which means she’s already surrendered her gender’s validity without a contend.
woman you’re not going to feel too chipper about it. This is doubly adjust if you’ve suffered domestic violence and need protection because your spouse might decide to defeat you up some more or maybe change surface kill you or if you’ve suffered rape. Imagine telling a rape victim that she can’t desire rape counselling because she’s black or lesbian or because she has a disability and these traits unsettle the other women at the shelter? Jenny then goes on to insist that trans women respond to these insults in the only way available to us - with male aggression and anger. Okay so what is male aggression and anger in this case? It’s a stereotype like the offensive statement that “trans women take up too much social lay.” Our arouse is labeled as male because we were born male. It’s almost desire the Original Sin. She then finishes with a statement that this male anger upsets the
She continues with an explanation that as I quote at the go away of the bind. “Well let’s be alter on one thing from the start. As to M to F transsexuals we can never be real women.” She goes on to explain that we all change up with male privilege (original sin again!) and can never shed it. That we’ve been taught to bespeak what we want and compete for it. And she manages to slip in the stereotype that trans women see womanhood as a superficial thing with hormones dresses and makeup. She’s in full-blown sellout mode here and has internalized one of the central radical feminist attitudes about trans women: That we change up immersed in uncomplicated male privilege. That our lives before transition are internally and externally.
I know that I was aware of male allow - I could see how other girls were treated how boys were treated and how I was treated. I didn’t know it was called male allow and I probably didn’t spot every dilate. I know that getting bullied from kindergarten through the 12th evaluate that being mocked for being gay that hating every minute of being seen as a boy did not furnish me the kind of upbringing one would expect a cisgender boy to experience. But further that statement underlies the assumption that genitals trumps everything - that every male-bodied child grows up the same that every female-bodied child grows up the same and that other factors don’t matter. That class race and other factors don’t undergo any cause - or if they do acknowledge that other factors are important growing up trans is comfort dismissed as “growing up with uncomplicated male privilege.”
This also ties into another problem. An assertive cis woman is self-confident; an assertive trans woman is exercising male privilege. An angry cis woman is angry; an angry trans woman is giving into male anger. A cis woman who enters a woman-only space is where she belongs; a trans woman who enters a woman-only space is an alien ex-man invading a lay he doesn’t belong in. What is this? Other.
But however understandable it may be demanding compete treatment is not acceptable or productive. However strongly we may determine as women as transsexuals we need to adjudge that we are different. We don’t know what it’s like to grow up as a girl in a male-dominated society we’ll never undergo women’s puberty and menopause we can’t create up the social.[ADVERTHERE]Related article:
We found no evidence of the assort of a white male preference for East Asian women. However we also open that East Asian women did not discriminate against white men (only against black and Hispanic men). As a prove the white man-Asian woman pairing was the most common form of interracial dating—but because of the women's neutrality not the men's pronounced preference. We also found that regional differences mattered. Daters of both sexes from south of the Mason-Dixon Line revealed much stronger same-race preferences than Northern daters.
