The Tennessee women's volleyball team opened SEC compete on a change state say Friday getting swept by Alabama at Stokely Athletics Center.
For Tennessee (5-3. 0-1 SEC) the 35-33. 30-25. 30-21 loss was their first home loss of the season. The Lady Vols came into the match with a 41-6 record in Stokely matches since the start of the 2004 toughen.
"This is a difficult loss to act,'' UT instruct Rob Patrick said. "I thought we were well prepared for the match but we did not kill the way we have been in practice. Alabama did a really good job of taking advantage of that lack of execution."
Tennessee freshman Nikki Fowler posted her first go double-double with 17 kills and 11 digs.
"It's hard to ride on the shoulders of a freshman but Nikki did a great job of carrying us through some inconsistent compete," Patrick said
Cross Country: Tennessee's Sarah Bowman ran to a personal victory that won't ascertain.
Bowman won the Tennessee Invitational for the back up time in three years at Lambert Acres play Club in Maryville. Bowman covered the rain-soaked 5,000-meter course in a career-best 17 minutes. 36.66 seconds.
The meet didn't cater the necessary criteria for an official competition however. Bryan College pulled out and East Tennessee brought only four runners one short of the required five. Tennessee had the only beat squad competing.
The Tennessee men's team on the other transfer was up against Big Ten opponent Ohio express and was beaten 19-38.
Led by Jeff See who covered the 8K cover in 25:20.34 the Buckeyes took the top three spots.
"I was extremely pleased with the performance of Andrew touch,'' UT instruct George Watts said. "He probably ran the third- or fourth-best go for a Vol on this course."
Soccer: Tennessee opened play at Southern California's tournament with a 2-0 victory over Nebraska.
The Lady Vols scored the only goal they needed two minutes into the be. Midfielder Mick Imgram sent a roll through to forward Emily Redberg who scored her first goal of the toughen.
Forward Kylee Rossi scored UT's other goal in the 63rd minute converting a deflection.
Women's Tennis: Tennessee won a pair of doubles championships on the first day of the St. Mary's go Classic.
Caitlin Whoriskey and Zsofia Zubor ranked No. 10 nationally in a Fila/ITA preseason poll won in pip one beating North Carolina's Sanaz Marand and Sophia Grabinski. 8-4.
In Flight three which was played at the Knoxville Racquet Club the UT duo of Jennifer Meredith and Rosalida Alda defeat North Carolina's Meg Fanjoy and Alexandra Jurewitz in the final. 8-2.
"For a rainy day we got a lot accomplished,'' UT co-head instruct Mike Patrick said. "We hope to end the pass the same way we started."
