A assort of sex workers of a red light area here have decided to initiate a pledge to gift their eyes during the ongoing Durga Puja.
Taking a cue from mythology wherein Lord Ram had offered to draw out one of his eyes as an offering to the goddess the sex workers have decided to donate their eyes said Mahasweta Mukherjee of Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee which is involved in mobilising sex workers to confront exploitation.
Kajal Bose a sex workers and a member of Durbar said. “We don’t accept in the notion that those donating their eyes after death would be born blind in the next life.
