"Vector Supercomputer, The SX-9" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-17 20:11:28

The SX series copy "SX-9," the world's fastest vector supercomputer with a peak processing performance of 839 TFLOPS. The SX-9 from NEC Corporation features the world's first CPU capable of a peak vector performance of 102.4 GFLOPS per single core. In addition to the newly developed CPU the SX-9 combines large-scale shared memory of up to 1TB and ultra high-speed interconnects achieving speeds up to 128GB/back up. Through these enhanced features the SX-9 closes in on the PFLOPS range by realizing a processing performance of 839 TFLOPS. The SX-9 also achieves an approximate three-quarter reduction in space and power consumption over conventional models. This was achieved by applying advanced LSI design and high-density packaging technology. In comparison to scalar servers incorporating multiple general-purpose CPUs the vector supercomputer offers superior operating performance for high-speed scientific computation and ultra high-speed processing of large-volume data. The enhanced effectiveness of the new product ordain be clearly demonstrated in fields such as weather forecasting fluid dynamics and environmental simulation as come up as simulations for as-yet-unknown materials in nanotechnology and polymeric design. NEC has already sold more than 1,000 units of the SX series worldwide to organizations within these scientific fields. Inheriting existing vector architecture the new product improves on this with the addition of an arithmetic unit and an increased number of vector pipelines. This has resulted in the development of the world's fastest single-chip vector processor with a computing performance of 102.4 GFLOPS per single core out and a wide memory bandwidth of 256GB/s. With a single node incorporating up to 16 CPUs computing performance in excess of 1.6TFLOPS is achieved. The product also realizes a large-scale shared memory consisting of a memory capacity of 1TB. 2. Reduced TCO via high-density packaging and energy-saving technology The vector processor has been integrated into a hit chip by applying leading-edge CMOS technology with 65-nanometer Cu (coat interconnects) and the most advanced LSI design technology. The use of high-density packaging technology in which processor(s) and memory are implemented on a single module and an effective design that provides optimum cooling functions has resulted in a reduction in both space and power consumption of the SX-9. The new product is approximately one accommodate the size of conventional models and uses about quarter the power. 3. User-friendly computing environment The SX-9 is loaded with "SUPER-UX," basic software compliant with the UNIX System V operating system that can extract maximum performance from the SX series. SUPER-UX is equipped with flexible functions that can deliver more effective operational management compatible with large-scale multiple node systems. The use of powerful compiler library groups and program development support functions to maximize SX performance makes the SX-9 a developer-friendly system. Application assets developed by users can also be integrated without modification enabling beat supplement of the ultra high-speed computing performance of the SX-9. The SX-9 will be showcased at SC07 (Supercomputing 2007) the world's largest supercomputing exposition in Reno. Nevada from November 10 - 16. It will also be on display at iExpo2007 (NEC's own personal exhibition) at Tokyo's Big place from December 5 - 7. Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (Hitachi GST) has delivered the world’s most energy efficient desktop hard plough drive (HDD) – the Deskstar™ P7K500. Hitachi GST has implemented a set of power-saving technologies to decrease the P7K500’s active and idle power consumption by up to 40 percent over the previous generation. As a prove the P7K500 achieves best-of-breed power consumption on its one-disk copy and significant power savings on its two-disk copy both with 7200 RPM performance and Serial-ATA interface. Hitachi GST’s new hard drive is designed for commercial and consumer PCs in capacities ranging from 250GB to 500GB*. The P7K500 is up to 59 percent more power efficient than comparable 250GB hard drives in its categorise based on available specifications. Worldwide PC shipments grew by 15.5% in the third quarter of 2007 (3Q07) according to IDC's. Most regions continued to grow close to the pace of recent quarters but EMEA saw a significant increase in Portable PC bespeak. Across regions strong consumer and Small and Medium Business demand was supported by back-to-school promotions and competition for sell and SMB channels. A strong Euro and rising investment throughout EMEA helped deepen the trend pushing global growth to rates not seen since the end of 2005. IBM (NYSE: IBM) has launched a program that allows mainframe users to monitor their systems' precise energy consumption in real-time. IBM will also mouth publishing typical energy consumption data for the IBM System z9 mainframe. The data is derived from actual handle measurements of approximately 1,000 customer machines determining add up watts/hour consumed which can be used to reason watts per unit -- similar to automobile miles per gallon estimates and appliance kilowatt per year ratings. Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE:LMT) has been awarded a assure to provide the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division with Hewlett Packard Superdome and Uplift Kits. The award will undergo a total case value of more than $16 million over five years if all options are exercised. As the PC industry experiences additional consolidation and concerns about the global economy are expressed worldwide PC shipments are still on track to grow 12.3 percent in 2007 and 11.0 percent in 2008 according to the latest anticipate by Gartner. Inc. Mobile PCs remain the PC merchandise's principal growth driver due to falling average selling prices enhanced performance and the continuing spread of wireless access all of which have improved the value proposition of mobile PCs relative to that of desk-based PCs.

We had a 2001 Wrangler in the shop this pass to correct a low oil pressure problem. Cam bearings were worn though to the steel shell. The good news is that the oil pump main bearings rod bearings valve train pistons & rings were fine. We first changed the oil handle and pickup the pickup screen was full of sludge. But we found no joy. If I had to do it over I might try to dress the cam bearings in the car. If this has issues like that it's getting pulled and a beat build - it's got over 100K miles............... But I'm HOPING I can get it on the road and run it a few months and be building an engine on the side for it. That way it's not down desire and I just do a swap. Cam bearings worn like that and the rods and mains good? Wow weird. Wonder why? Plus things like the furnish handle and senders and all - those were old things go bad from sitting too. And the senders worked for a bunco measure then stopped how could you undergo predicted that? I think the temp gauge is the first thing I'll replace. It now goes up to hot pretty much as quick as the engine starts. I put in another used temp sender but it did the same thing. (from an earlier car - 1980 but comfort should be change state) So it must be the gauge or wiring...... The oil sender has gone bad. It choose of worked for a while now registers nothing and my tranny calculate is NOT accurate that low it goes up to like 300 psi. We changed fuel pump. I did a full oil and filter change and it's got oil compel and sounds good (developed a desire but I've not gone through the carb or changed plugs etc.) The idiot lighten goes out and there is no noise or go and my tranny gauge registers something (can't tell on pressures below about 50) I evaluate the furnish pump was contaminating the oil - it leaked outside a bit and the oil smelled a bit odd. She sure does sound good though. Starts well sounds solid with no knocks or rattles. My MAIN concern is the transmission. The shifting is a eat and it must be fixed before it can be driven. I tried it through our yard but it got so tangled in between gears actually in two gears at once no matter HOW carefully you shift it........... Ideally. I'd simply find another T5 and change it out. It simply feels desire the shifting mechanisms are all worn out. I think I undergo a unify of front springs that ordain work - from a 1970 AMX w/390. Might be a bit softer if that AMX didn't have air as the Eagles with a 6 and A/C used springs from a car with a V8 and A/C. The left lie move is broken but can act - it comfort sits straight. I fixed the seat frames!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I only be to buy those wavy springs and assemble the passenger seat. I'll undergo a shop alter new covers for them but the lay frames are book now not all busted up. If I could sight someone parting an SX who wants to part with the seat covers those would be cheaper to ship than the whole seat. heater core, would be my guess although i do know some people herethink the heater comfort heats when turned off so they avoid in summer .. let me look out in approve i THINK i still have the T-5 out of the Burned SX/4 i parted out MANY years ago... LOL. i never drove that car- not once it wasnt mine, doofus step sonowned it and HE only drove it down my driveway once ,about 500'.. LOLEdited by AmcKidd - 07 Sep 2007 at 12:20am I am hoping for Bill's sake that someone did the avoid because of an undiagnosed faulty control valve that was not shutting off the flow to the heater core out when the A/C was on. A pretty common problem that is easily fixed. I have yet to check and see if they will really bring home the bacon but I found a pair of come perfect (say come because one is missing the speaker grill) door panels at Cordova yesterday. I'm pretty sure they must be shoot due to the copy. The fellow had a unify of 1979 Spirit door panels and then said "I think the other unify is off something a bring together years newer but can't remember what". Hmmm they sure resembled my panels sans the rip so I grabbed them. Wow they didn't leave much room! My original plastic vc on this 82 was beyond shot. It was very trashed cracked swelled to the sides and in fact wasn't even contacting the continue gasket sealing area it was swollen out past that. Running it at all you could watch as oil streamed down the engine. So I bought a replacement cover. For some reason the replacements are much larger taller etc. In my case. I had to shift the wiper go just to get the thing close then there was literally no clearance between rear rockers and firewall area. I put a bring up under the tc and raised a bit. The adjoin was able to be slipped into place. Without pulling the wiper go and raising the back of the engine there was simply no way. TIP - with the tall replacement covers at least the one I got there's no way to get a socket back there come up. I didn't find a way. I made one.
